"Journal of BAS" is a general academic journal of BAS. It is the successor of the "Periodical journal" of the Bulgarian Literary Society. The first booklet was published in 1870 and in 1911 it was renamed "Journal of BAS".

The main purpose of the Journal is to contribute to the spiritual growth of the Bulgarian people and through book exchange to inform the Bulgarian diaspora around world, as well as the foreign members of BAS about the achievements of Bulgarian scientists, the scientific life of BAS and the country.
"Journal of BAS" publishes in Bulgarian overviews of current scientific problems, original scientific results and contributions to applied sciences, book reviews, discussions, activities of the Regional Academic Centers, national and international scientific events, jubilee celebrations and other events in the life of BAS and its units.
The journal provides a platform to young scientists, as well as to scientists from abroad working in the field of Bulgarian studies, or in cooperation with scientists from BAS. Important events in the life of scientists in Bulgaria and abroad are reflected: conferences, seminars, congresses, exhibitions. Reviews on new Bulgarian and foreign books, interviews with Bulgarian and foreign scientists are also published.

“Journal of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences” Receives High Academic Recognition
The President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Corr. Member Evelina Slavcheva, presented the Gold Honorary Plaque of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences to Acad. Ivan Ivanov, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The distinction was awarded on the occasion of the 155th anniversary of the journal’s first issue and acknowledges the overall contribution of the editorial team to the advancement of science and the cultural development of Bulgarian society.
The Journal of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences continues the tradition of the Periodical Journal of the Bulgarian Literary Society, whose first edition was published in Braila in 1870 and is now preserved in the Central Library of BAS. For more than a century and a half, the journal has fulfilled the mission set by Marin Drinov: to educate, to promote the achievements of Bulgarian science, and to reflect the development of scientific life in Bulgaria and around the world.
The Gold Honorary Plaque of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences award highlights the journal’s role as one of the oldest and most respected scientific publications in Bulgaria and recognizes the efforts of its editors to uphold high academic standards and the enduring traditions of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
