  • Geosciences as a National Educational, Research and Exploration System for Planet Earth
    Author(s): Ivan Zagorchev
Abstract: In the present paper we consider all activities and institutions related to the complex system of the hard Earth as a complex national system. This Geoscience System (Complex) embraces educational institutions (schools of all degrees), research institutions, NGO’s, and the National Geological Survey. They all are of paramount importance for the normal functioning of a number of private and public business units. The disruption and minimization of the geosciences education in the primary and secondary schools at the beginning of the 1960ies and the liquidation of the national geological survey (Committee of Geology) in 1997 in Bulgaria have been the most violent blows on this system with unmeasurable negative effects on the nation and the state.
